Great Selection of Brand New Chevelle Parts For Your Project

The Chevrolet Chevelle is one of the GM’s legendary nameplates, recognizable and popular even long after the model was discontinued. For the better part of the 60s and 70s, Chevelle was Chevrolet’s best-selling mid-size car, which was available in numerous versions, body styles, and engine configurations. Even though it was envisioned as an affordable vehicle, it featured advanced construction similar to full-size GM models combined with specific Chevelle parts, which helped the driving dynamics and sales. The Chevelle SS was highly acclaimed during the heyday of muscle car culture for its performance and aggressive looks. Today, thanks to the availability of classic Chevelle parts, this model is very popular amongst restorers and collectors.

History of the Chevelle

The American automotive landscape was rapidly changing in the early 60s. Suddenly compact cars started gaining popularity, and Chevrolet was amongst the first to respond to the trend. However, they still needed something to bridge the gap between compact (and infamous) Corvair and Chevy II and full-size Impala. So, in late 1963, the Chevelle was introduced. Immediately available as two and four-door models, hardtop, convertible, and station wagon, Chevelle was recognized as the ideal family car for being practical, affordable, and available with numerous features. Under the hood, there was a lineup of economical six-cylinder engines as well as several V8 units for buyers who wanted a bit more performance. The basic models were called Chevelles, but upscale versions were called Malibu. The Chevrolet Chevelle production lasted until 1977, but the Malibu nameplate continues to this day.

The most sought-after Chevelle models are high-performance Super Sport versions. A true muscle car icon, Chevrolet SS was introduced as a trim level in 1964 but gained popularity with the availability of the big-block 396 engine in 1966. In 1970, when the corporate ban on engine size was lifted, Chevelle SS was offered with an optional and legendary 427 big-block V8 and immediately became one of the most powerful muscle cars on sale. Unfortunately, the rest of the 70s was marked by a decline in performance which meant that Chevelle SS and the whole Chevelle line were discontinued after a couple of years.

What Is The Rarest Chevelle?

The 1965 SS Z16 was a one-year-only model which featured a number of special Chevelle parts and a big block engine. Only 201 examples were made.

How Do You Tell Classic Chevelles Apart?

The Chevrolet Chevelle has been produced in three distinctive generations over the course of 14 years. The first-gen Chevelles (1964 to 1967) are easily recognized for their boxy design and wide chrome grille. The second generation was much more sporty looking with a fastback profile on two-door versions. It was introduced in 1968 and sold until 1973. It featured a redesign in 1970 with a recognizable front fascia. The third generation was presented in 1973 with two headlights, a wider grille, and boxy styling, characteristic of the period. We feature classic Chevelle parts for all models and versions.

What Chevelle Parts Are Interchangeable?

If you plan to restore a classic Chevelle, knowing what classic Chevelle parts are interchangeable is valuable information. Many engine components and engines are interchangeable during almost all model years. The same goes for suspension components, brakes, and transmission bits. The classic Chevelle parts which are not interchangeable are specific trim pieces, bodywork, interior component, and particular high-performance stuff used on Chevelle SS models, especially big-block versions of the early 70s.

Do Classic Chevelles Go Up In Value?

As a bonafide classic and one of the coolest muscle car models, Chevelles can be considered an investment. Of course, there is a considerable difference in collectability and price between the ordinary, four-door models with straight-six models and the highly desirable SS396 and SS454. The run-of-the-mill models, produced in large numbers, will never be very valuable and are often sold in the $10,000 range, while the 1970 Chevelle SS454 can go as high as $200,000 at auctions. As with any classic, originality is the key so all important classic Chevelle parts must be present.
