The Chevrolet Camaro is an American automobile created by Chevrolet, known largely as a pony car, at first, later some models were rightfully classified as muscle cars. The first Camaro went on sale, September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was developed to compete with Ford’s new affordable sports car, the Mustang. The Camaro and the Pontiac Firebird shared it’s frame drivetrain and most of their other major components. The Firebird, another one of GM’s flexible and affordable muscle cars, was also introduced in 1967.
There are four easily identifiable generations of the Camaro that were developed before they were discontinued in 2002. The Chevy Camaro was revived, starting as a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro. On March 16, 2009 production started on the next generation of Camaros. Over 5 million Camaros have been sold.
