Reproduction Car Parts for Your Classic GTO

The Pontiac GTO is an American-made automobile produced by Pontiac from 1964 to 1974 and by GM Holden in Australia from 2004 to 2006.

Pontiac’s first generation of the GTO was the first stock muscle car introduced in the 1960s and 70s. Some believe that GM and Pontiac started the trend of stock muscle cars when they introduced the GTO. This is quite probable since all four domestic automakers started offering a variety of competing models very soon after.

From 1964 through 1965, the GTO package was an optional upgrade on the Pontiac LeMans. The 1964 GTO VIN or vehicle identification number starts with an 82 and the 1965 GTO started with 237. The GTO became its own model from 1966 to 1971. From 1972 through 1973 it became an optional upgrade package for the LeMans, again. And for one year, 1974, the GTO was an optional upgrade offered on the smaller Ventura.

In 1968 the Pontiac GTO was awarded Motor Trend’s Car of the Year, which was a very high honor for a car in its class.

The GTO name was revived from 2004 to 2006 as an import for Pontiac. It was an Americanized version of the Holden Monaro which was the coupe variant of the Holden Commodore.
